Chair of Software Engineering at the Hannover Messe 2019
The Chair of Software Engineering, headed by Prof. Dr. Frank Ortmeier, presented its OPTIRob demonstrator at this year's Hannover Messe. The trade fair appearance took place as part of the joint stand "Research for the Future" of the federal states of Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia from April 1 to 5, 2019.
"This is necessary because most program creation is done manually these days. For a company, however, this means that follow-up costs of around €30,000-40,000 are necessary with every new program," says Ortmeier. OPTIRob uses optimization algorithms to make the final movement of the robot as energy-efficient and material-friendly as possible. This means that no special knowledge of robotics and programming is required to create an individual robot control system.
This demonstrator is an important part of the Mittelstand 4.0 Kompetenzzentrum Magdeburg, in which Otto von Guericke University is a project partner. Ortmeier explains: "With this demonstrator, we want to specifically address small and medium-sized companies that are currently still shying away from using an industrial robot. We show them that industrial robots can also be adapted and used for very small series without a great deal of know-how and at low cost.".
Ortmeier is satisfied with the response to the Hannover Messe: "During the trade fair, we had many discussions with interested parties from industry and research in Germany and abroad, with whom we want to make contact in the coming weeks. We can therefore only warmly recommend that all areas of the university take advantage of this marketing opportunity.".
A big thank you also goes to the trade fair team at the OvGU Transfer and Start-up Centre for their professional and excellent cooperation in organizing and running the joint stand at the Hannover Messe.
