Information technology allows for new planning methods in urban development. The project otto-motion focuses on urban planning and development of sporting activities. In this project, researchers and experts from sports, data mining and systems engineering together develop tools and methods to boost the time that citizens of Magdeburg spent on physical exercise.
One focus will be mobile information technology. The core idea is to bring together well-known motivating factors from real-life sporting activities and social networks. The underlying technologies include Web 2.0 methods and smartphone-based mobile assistants. For example, these can help making appointments with friends for sport activities. In parallel, modern data mining and knowledge engineering methods will be used to find out where which type of sporting facility should be built.
